What To Expect

Our wedding will be a traditional Hindu Tamil ceremony celebrated in a temple, a sacred space filled with prayers and centuries-old traditions. It is a deeply meaningful and joyful ritual, centered on love, family, friends and blessings for our life together.

Rather than one single moment, the ceremony unfolds as a beautiful sequence of rituals. Even if the words and customs are unfamiliar, we invite you to simply be present, to watch, listen in the peaceful and celebratory atmosphere.

The heart of the ceremony is the tying of the Thali, the sacred wedding necklace, which symbolizes our union and commitment to one another. Some rituals will involve close family and friends, while guests are welcome to observe and experience this special moment with us. The ceremony will last approximately 3 hours. Afterwards, we would love to greet you and celebrate together over a vegan lunch, shared with gratitude and joy.

Timeline

The Ceremony Flow (9:30-12:00)

• Tholan (Bride's side Groom's Supporter): Majuran Loganathan
• Tholi (Groom's side Bride's Supporter): Zana Hertenstein
• Welcoming the Groom – The bride's family welcomes the groom and his attendant; the Tholan perform a welcoming ritual.
• Ganesha Ritual – The priest invokes Lord Ganesha with prayers and blessings to begin the ceremony.
• Bride's Entrance – The bride enters, with Tholi accompanied by her close family.
• Kanya Thaanam – Giving the bride away: The Bride's family is handing over their cherished daughter to the Groom and his family. The Bride sits on her father's lap with a coconut in her hands. The Bride's father then lifts her hands and passes the coconut to the Groom, while the Bride's mother sprinkles holy water over it. This symbolizes the Bride's parents asking the Groom to look after their daughter for the rest of their lives, since this ritual celebrates the merging of two families.
• Thali Ceremony – The groom ties the Thali (sacred wedding necklace) around the bride's neck — the most significant moment. Guests shower the newlyweds with fresh flower petals and rice grains.
• Saptapadi — The Seven Steps – The couple takes seven steps together around the sacred fire, representing vows for their life ahead.
• Blessings – Family and guests offer their blessings as the ceremony concludes.
• Final Prayers & Conclusion

You don't need to follow every step, simply being present means a lot to us.

Traditional Lunch (12:30 – 15:00)

Dress Code

Traditional clothing is welcome but not required. These are gentle recommendations. Please wear what makes you feel respectful, comfortable, and yourself.

Men: Traditional wear such as veshti/dhoti or kurta is welcome. Smart trousers with a shirt are also perfectly fine.

Women: Saree, salwar kameez, lehenga, or other modest dresses. If you are interested in borrowing or buying a saree or other traditional attire, please feel free to reach out to us. We would be happy to help and love being part of it.

Children: Comfortable, modest clothing that allows them to move freely.

Western Ceremony

What To Expect

Our Western wedding will take place outdoors, right by the Alster, surrounded by sailboats, water and, we hope, beautiful weather. Beginning at 2:30 PM, the celebration is designed as a relaxed and joyful afternoon that flows naturally into the evening.

The day will start with a warm welcome and reception, followed by a free wedding ceremony held outside. Rather than a formal or rigid structure, the ceremony focuses on personal words, shared moments, and the meaning of our commitment to one another, witnessed by our family and friends.

After the ceremony, we will raise a glass together to celebrate, take some time for photos, and enjoy coffee and cake in a casual atmosphere. As the day continues, we will share dinner before transitioning into an evening of music, laughter, and an extended celebration together. We invite you to simply arrive, enjoy the setting, and be part of a day that is meant to feel open, joyful, and shared — a celebration of love, togetherness, and the beginning of our life as a married couple.
